WATERTOWN – The Aberdeen Central boys soccer program, to borrow a hockey term, won a shorty on Tuesday.

After junior goalkeeper Camden Fauth received two yellow cards – and thus a red card and an exit from the game – the Golden Eagles had to play the majority of the game a man down.

Central battled through to claim a 1-0 victory over Watertown to spoil the Arrows’ Senior Day and claim its fourth win in a row.

“It was a game that had everything,” said Central coach Lance Mohr. “To have that adversity hit at that point of the game against a good team was really a shock to us. You’re looking to see how your team responds. The blow right away was overwhelming, but once we got to halftime, we were able to regroup and come up with a game plan. The guys executed it to perfection.”

Mohr said the Golden Eagles created a couple of scoring opportunities in the second half, but it was senior Sekou Gogue that buried the go-ahead goal with a little over 20 minutes left to play.

“We just hung on for dear life,” Mohr said.

Central improves to 7-2-1 on the year with two games left in the regular season. The Golden Eagles will host Yankton Saturday in their final home game ahead of playoffs.

“They grinded for each other,” Mohr said. “They battled and battled. It was an awesome team win.”
