MILBANK – The Aberdeen Central girls’ tennis team claimed a pair of 9-0 victories over Lennox and Milbank Area Tuesday afternoon as part of the Milbank Triangular in Milbank.
“The girls played well today,” said Central coach John Vogel. “My goal was to not have to coach much. By that, I mean to have the girls figure out their own issues. Coming up at (Eastern South Dakota Conference) and the state tournament, we coaches won’t be able to watch every match, and for the most part that’s what happened today.”
While the scores of the individual matches reflected overwhelmingly in favor of the Golden Eagles, Vogel said there were plenty of tense moments throughout the day.
“You wouldn’t know it by looking at the scores, but several of the matches were tight,” Vogel said. “Our girls were able to buckle down and go on a run to end the match.”
Central has one remaining match at home before heading into the ESD and state tournaments. The Golden Eagles will host Sioux Falls Christian on Saturday.
“Hopefully (the girls) can continue to do that as we finish up our season,” Vogel said.
