Golden Eagles record top-five team finishes at Watertown meet

WATERTOWN – The Aberdeen Central girls finished fourth and the Golden Eagle boys finished fifth in the team standings of the Watoma Cross Country Invitational Thursday in Watertown.

Juna Ramey and Morgan VanVeen led Central’s girls squad with top-15 finishes. Ramey was 12th overall with VanVeen close behind in 14th.

As a team, Central finished with 113 points. Brandon Valley ran away with the team title with 34 points.

On the boys side, it was Rylan Johnson and Tino Lopez who led the way for the Golden Eagles, finishing in 22nd and 23rd place, respectively.

Central finished with 111 points as a team, claiming fifth in what turned out to be a tight team race. Pierre was third with 101 points, followed by Sioux Falls Jefferson (102), Central, Harrisburg (112) and Sioux Falls Washington (115).

Brandon Valley won the team title with 74 points.

“Great competition in Watertown today,” said Central boys’ coach Greg Murley “We look forward to getting ready for ESD next week.”

Central will head to Brookings on Saturday, Oct. 8 for the Eastern South Dakota Conference Championships at Edgebrook Golf Course.
