Roncalli sweeps Groton for third straight victory

GROTON - After dropping three consecutive matches to start the season, Aberdeen Roncalli has started a streak in the opposite direction. The Cavaliers won their third straight match Thursday in a 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 Northeast Conference decision over Groton. "The girls did a nice job of spreading the play out and making off-system plays into points," said Roncalli coach Mandy Smid. The Cavaliers continued to serve the ball aggressively, finishing with eight aces on the night. McKenna O'Keefe led the attack with four aces. Roncalli also racked up 30 kills in the sweep. Ella Hanson topped the squad with 14 kills, while Ava Hanson contributed nine. Smid said her team's communication was also a factor in the contest. "They talked from behind," Smid said, "but our aggressiveness set the tone for the game." Emma Kutter had six kills to lead a balanced attack for Groton.
