WATERTOWN – Aberdeen Central found its back against the wall multiple times Tuesday night, but the Golden Eagles found a way to finish off a volleyball win over Watertown.

The Golden Eagles rallied in each set they won on the way to a 28-26, 25-18, 19-25, 26-24 Eastern South Dakota Conference victory.

“We were able to serve aggressively and then just defend,” said Central coach Jackie Bindenagel.

Central was staring at five set points in the opening set, trailing 24-19. However, the visitors found a way to pull out that set in extra points.

The Golden Eagles then trailed 9-3 at the beginning of the second set and then took control after that for a two-set advantage.

After Watertown won the third set, the Arrows were on the verge of forcing a deciding fifth set, leading 21-15 in the fourth. That’s when Central reeled off eight straight points to grab a lead.

The Arrows were able to save two match points before the Golden Eagles put the finishing touches on the dramatic comeback.

“Our kids found some open shots and got touches at the net,” Bindenagel said.

Central featured a balanced attack as Ashley Wangler and Lauryn Burckhard each had 10 kills, and Grace Kuch followed with nine.

Sawyer Bahr finished with three aces, while Arylie Waldo, Madison Miller and Kuch each had a pair.

Waldo contributed 28 set assists and Sydney Evans led the defense with 37 digs. Kuch and Taryn Nieman both had four blocks.

Central is now 12-11 on the season and has won three of its last four matches on the road.

“It was a great team effort,” Bindenagel said. “I’m proud of our kids.”

The Eagles will remain on the road for a match against Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Tuesday, before hosting Sioux Falls Jefferson next Thursday.
