BRITTON – While Aberdeen Christian was swept in its regular-season finale Tuesday night, the Knights gained a shot of momentum heading into the post season.

The Knights overcame a sluggish start, but still fell to Britton-Hecla 25-11, 25-20, 20-18 in a non-conference volleyball match.

“The first set was rough,” said Christian coach Sara Powell, “but we got our hitting going in the second and third.”

Alyssa James led a balanced Britton-Hecla attack with seven kills. She also had two aces, eight digs and a solo block. Kaegan Fredrickson added six kills and two aces. McKaelyn Zuehlke had a team-leading five ace serves.

Jolie Fogarty had a big evening for the Knights, finishing with five aces, four kills and seven set assists.

“Jolie went on a run with her serving,” Powell said.

Payton Skarin also had four kills for Christian.

While the Knights were not able to secure a set, they were able to make things interesting.

“I’m super proud of these ladies for never giving up,” Powell said.

Christian will now prepare for upcoming Region 1B action. The Knights will likely have a home match on Monday against Waverly-South Shore although official pairings have yet to be announced.

“I told the girls that we just need to carry our energy into next week,” Powell said. “They have worked hard all season. Even though the record doesn’t show it, they have shown great improvement and I am excited for the future of these girls.”
