WEBSTER – Milbank Area had three of the top four boys’ runners and Clark-Willow Lake had four of the top eight girls’ runners as each squad won their respective divisions at the Northeast Conference cross country meet on Thursday afternoon.

Milbank Area’s Payton Brown won the boys’ race, while Jaycee Hourigan of Deuel was the girls’ champion.

Aberdeen Roncalli finished third in both team points.

“We had a good meet,” said Roncalli coach Brady Lesnar.

The Cavaliers were led by Addison Cassady in the girls’ division. The seventh-grader finished fourth overall.

“Addison Cassady competed well with some girls that have been ahead of her this season,” Lesnar said. “Hazel Kannegieter ran so well for us as well and got in the top 20.”

The Roncalli boys were led by Paul Gutenkauf who finished seventh and Garrett Griffin who took ninth. Kelynn Mount was 16th and Isaac Price 17th.

“We had four boys in the top 20 and a few just shy,” Lesnar said “Paul, Garrett, Kelynn and Isaac all competed well. I’m happy with their progress.”

The Cavaliers will now take a week to gear up for the Region 1A meet, back in Webster on Thursday.

“We’re looking forward to next week,” Lesnar said. “We have our work cut out for us. Hopefully, we can get a few kids in to state.”
