CLEAR LAKE – Aberdeen Roncalli showed off its depth and balance in its final regular-season match of the year.

The Cavaliers, playing for the first time since last Tuesday, turned back Deuel for a 25-14, 25-9, 19-25, 25-9 Northeast Conference volleyball victory Tuesday night.

“After almost a week off from games, we closed up the regular season with some younger players leading the way,” said Roncalli coach Mandy Smid. “Tonight was well rounded and we set the tone with our aggressive attack.”

The Cavaliers collected 30 kills in the match led by McKenna O’Keefe with eight. Maddie Huber added six.

Roncalli also had 10 aces, with three apiece from Camryn Bain and Huber, and two from Faith Danielson.

Bain topped Roncalli defense with 29 digs and O’Keefe contributed 15. Danielson had 11 sets assists and Huber 10.

Smid said having a balanced attack should help the squad as it begins region play next week.

“Having more players that can make plays and scores will only make our team more versatile in the post season,” Smid said.

Josie Andersen and Emma Hamann each had seven kills to pace the Cardinals. Andersen also had 13 set assists and Hamann added 19 digs.

Roncalli concluded the regular season with a 14-9 record. While the Region 1A pairings will not be finalized until later in the week, the Cavaliers will host a first-round match on Tuesday at Roncalli Gym.
