Miller upends Groton to claim State A tourney entry

HURON – Miller improved to 32-2 on the season with a straight set 25-21, 25-12, 25-10 victory over Groton during Class A SoDak 16 volleyball action at James Valley Christian in Huron Tuesday night.

Ally Mullaney had 13 kills and Abbi Blake contributed 10 for the Rustlers, who finished with 40 kills as a team.

Tyra Gates had 33 set assists on the night. Jolie Palmer had a pair of aces to go along with a team-leading 24 digs.

Groton, which pulled off a pair of wins against higher-seeded teams in region action last week, had its season come to an end with a 14-15 record.

Miller will be the second seed at next week’s state tournament at the Premier Center in Sioux Falls. The Rustlers will face Platte-Geddes in the opening round next Thursday.

Digs: Miller 66 (Jolie Palmer 24, Werdel 12, Gates 12, Aleah Schlechter 5).

Blocks: Miller (Blake 2 blocks 1 block assist, Mullaney 1 block assist, Werdel 1 block assist).

Records: Groton 14-15; Miller 32-2.
