Presentation sweeps Dakota State, defeated by Bellevue

WATERTOWN – Presentation College did something did something in the first round at the North Star Athletic Association Super Six Volleyball Championship that has not been done since 2016. 

The Saints swept Dakota State University to move on to the final four of the NSAA Super Six Championship.

The Saints came out strong against the Trojans in the first set. The Trojans did build themselves a three point cushion early on. Presentation College then fought its way back to tie the set at 11. From there on in the first set the Saints took control and the lead to win 25-22.

In the second set the Saints came out to a hot start scoring the sets first four points. The Trojans came back and got the score of the match to 4-5 before the Saints went on a five point run to push the lead to 10-4. Both team traded points over the course of the set with either team able to get more than a three point lead. Set two finally ended at 27-25 when Makynna Snow (SO/Galt, CA) had the kill.

Set three was much like the first two of this first round matchup. Neither team could build much of lead to distance themselves from the other. The Saints did at one point in the set build a five point lead. The Trojans fought back got within a single point several times over the later part of the set. In the end the Saints did prevail and win 25-22 like in set one.

By the Numbers…

The Saints were lead in kills by Grace Tobin (JR/Mason City, IA) with 16 followed by Makyah Albrecht (FR/Bozeman, MT) with 10. Setters Olivia Corey (SO/Watertown, SD) and Sydney Miller (SR/Battle Ground, WA) had 24 and 20 assists respectively in the match. Corey also had two service aces. Tobin led the Saints with 21 digs. Laura Babcock (SR/Aberdeen, SD) had 19, and Corey had 17 digs. The Saints hit .210 for the match.

The Saints then fell to Bellevue in the semifinals of the tourney, dropping the match by set scores of 25-17, 25-22, 25-21. PC concluded its season with a record of 10-23.
