HERREID – The Herreid-Selby Area ground game was out in full force Friday night.

The Wolverines racked up 419 yards on the ground – including 322 by Brenden Begeman – on the way to a 62-30 win over Irene-Wakonda in the semifinals of the Class 9B football playoffs.

Begeman set the tone for the contest with a 65-yard TD run to start the scoring, his first of five touchdowns on the night.

Tray Hettick passed for 109 yards and also ran for 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Wolverines, who improved to 11-0 on the season.

Trevor Gill, who finished with 72 yards receiving, also returned a fumble for a TD for HSA.

Dashel Spurrell powered Irene-Wakonda with two rushing touchdowns in addition throwing a pass for a TD.

Herreid-Selby Area, which finished runner-up in Class 9A last season, will now square off against fellow unbeaten Hitchcock-Tulare for the 9B championship at 11 a.m. Thursday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.
