RAPID CITY – Aberdeen Central put four wrestlers into the quarterfinals in the boys’ division and one into the semifinals in the girls’ division at the Rapid City Invitational on Friday.

“I thought the effort the was good,” said Central coach Donnie Bowden. “The competition, obviously that was a step up. It’s a tough tournament.”

The Golden Eagles advanced Rayden Zens, Tate Huff, Mason Schrempp and Samson Flakus into the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Will Allen, Ridley Waldo, Brody Aesoph, Logan Opitz, Bryce Beitelspacher, and Jacob Grenz are still alive in the wrestlebacks.

“Hopefully, we can get those four punched into the semifinals and keep everyone climbing up the ladder,” Bowden said.

Madyson Gillen recorded a pair of pins to advance to the semifinals.

“They were hard fought wins, too,” Bowden said. “She went out there and got after it. It was pretty tough competition and she ended up pinning them both.”

Avery Bendewald, Eva Hinkle and Katrina Gibson all still going in the wrestlebacks.

“It was a good day to see this level of competition and be at this big of a tournament,” Bowden said.

The Golden Eagles will now look to cap off a busy three-day stretch with a strong finish when action resumes today.

“We’re just kind of excited to see where we can finish (Saturday),” Bowden said.
