SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Aberdeen Cougars scored early, scored often and skated to a 10-0 girls’ hockey victory over the Sioux Center Storm on Saturday.

The Cougars hit the ice running and took advantage of their depth from the opening whistle.

“I was really pleased with how we came out and played today,” said Cougars coach Rob Weinmeister. “We had lots of hustle and put a ton of pressure on them. We scored 1:38 into the game, but that was after two line changes, while they still had their original line on. That set the tone for the night.”

Morgan Jones had three goals and two assists in the victory. Alyssa Roehrich had a pair of goals and three assists. Sydney Hofer contributed two goals and one assist. Kailynn Poppen scored one goal and assisted on two others.

Ema Rehder and Rachel Siefken also found the back of the net for the Cougars.

“Morgan Jones, Alyssa Roehrich and Kailyn Poppen passed the puck well tonight and had some great feeds from behind net as well as backside looks,” Weinmeister said. “I thought as a team we really moved the puck well.”

The Cougars, 12-3 on the season, face Sioux Center again today.
