GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Aberdeen Cougars got off a solid start at the Junior Gold Grand Forks Tournament with a 5-1 boys’ hockey victory over Minot on Friday afternoon.

“We had scoring from all three lines today,” said Cougars coach Jeremey Backous.

The Cougars received goals from five different players in the win. Ethan Fergel, Levi Little, Micah Kranzler, Michael Weisenburger, and Devon Fischbach each found the back of the net for Aberdeen.

“We played pretty good team hockey and shared the puck,” Backous said.

The Cougars outshot Minot 42-18 on the way to the win. Colton Townsend stopped 17 shots in goal for Aberdeen.

The Cougars improved to 7-7-1 on the season. They face Dickinson at 10:15 this morning and then will play Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada at 3:15 this afternoon.
