The Aberdeen Cougars built a two-goal lead, watched it evaporate, then regained control in a 4-2 boys’ hockey win over the Yankton Bucks on Saturday at the Odde Ice Center.
Devon Fischbach scored in the opening period for the Cougars before Brady Huff extended the lead less than 30 seconds into the second period. However, the visitors battle back to knot the score at 2-2 heading into the third period.
Aberdeen took the lead for good when Aiden Posthumus found the back of the net with 9:14 left in the game. Micah Kranzler added an empty netter for the final margin of difference.
Jaxon Danielsen had a pair of assists in the victory.
The Cougars outshot Yankton 30-17 in the contest.
Sam Casper had 15 saves in goal for Aberdeen.
The same two teams are back on the ice at 4 this afternoon at the Odde Ice Center.
