CLARK – What was a back-and-forth affair early gave way to Clark-Willow Lake’s control Thursday night, as the Cyclones pushed their way to a 66-33 Northeast Conference boys’ basketball victory over Aberdeen Roncalli in Clark. The setback halted Roncalli’s five-game winning streak.

Thursday’s game marked the Cavaliers’ third game in six days, and Roncalli entered the contest without the services of reserve guard Zane Backous, out with an illness, but it was not fatigue that factored into Roncalli’s offensive troubles, said coach Dan Gallagher.

“It obviously hurt not having Zane, but what really hurt was we had two of our guards (Darwin Gambler and Aiden Fisher) in foul trouble early,” Gallagher said. “I think they played about three minutes total in the first half.”

Clark-Willow Lake took advantage, as Kaplan Felberg hit back-to-back three-pointers near the end of the first quarter to push the Cyclones’ advantage to 19-10.

“(Clark-Willow Lake) shot the ball extremely well,” Gallagher said. “They’re really well-coached. … They’re so fundamentally sound, and when they shoot the ball that well, they’re a tough team to beat.”

Felberg finished with 31 points to lead all scorers in the game. Trey Huber backed up that effort with 21 points of his own, as the pair combined for 52 of the team’s 66 points.

Maddox Miller scored 14 points for Roncalli before fouling out of the contest. Gambler finished with six points off the bench.

Roncalli will have little time to dwell on the loss, as the Cavaliers are right back in action tonight, hosting Northwestern at Roncalli Gym.

“We obviously have to learn from this one, but we told the guys by the time we leave Clark, we have to have our minds focused on (Friday)’s game,” Gallagher said.
