BROOKINGS – The Aberdeen Central wrestling programs recorded a pair of Eastern South Dakota Conference wins over Brookings Thursday night, with the boys taking a 40-16 win over the Bobcats and the girls claiming victory by a 30-22 count.

The boys improved to 12-4 in duals this season, while the girls moved to 5-3.

“These were solid wins,” said Central coach Donnie Bowden.

The Golden Eagle boys got five bonus-point victories en route to their team win, plus an overtime thriller from Logan Opitz at 160 pounds.

Tate Huff also won a high-scoring 14-12 decision at 132 pounds.

“We went out and won nine of 14 matches,” Bowden said. “We found bonus points in five matches. We won some tight ones and lost some tight ones, but if you’re going to lose, that’s the way you want to lose. It was a strong performance.”

Bowden said his squad was able to keep emotions in check throughout the match.

The girls, meanwhile, got a pair of pin-fall victories from Jasmine Maas at 132 pounds and Katrina Gibson at 154 pounds.

“Jasmine went out there and took care of business,” Bowden said. “She took the girl right to her back to get the fall. Same with Katrina.”

Ula Martin (126 pounds) claimed Central’s third victory in matches wrestled.

Central will wrap the regular season next week, with a makeup dual at Pierre next Thursday. The girls then head back to Harrisburg the following Saturday for a tournament while the boys travel to Huron for their tournament.
