FREDERICK – A pair of regular-season trends continued into the postseason on Saturday afternoon.

Leola-Frederick, known for its strong defense, contained Aberdeen Christian, which struggled maintaining consistent offense this past season. Put the two together and it led to 50-13 victory for the Titans in the quarter finals of the Region 1B girls’ basketball tournament.

It became clear early on that the Leola-Frederick was locked in and the Knights were having a difficult time getting quality looks.

It took a few minutes for the Titans to get going, but they were still able to build a double-digit lead in the quarter thanks to five points from Chloe Arneson.

The Leola-Frederick advantage continued to grow in the second period as Sofi Losure scored seven points in the stanza. Meanwhile, Christian had its second straight two-point quarter.

While the Knights eventually got going in the third period battling the Titans to near even terms, the damage was already done.

“It was a pretty rough one, but (our players) are starting think for the next year,” said Knights coach Cristian Martinez. “We proved we can play good basketball. Now, it is my job to help them to build and win some games.”

Losure topped Leola-Frederick with 19 points. Laura Sumption followed with 13, and Arneson finished with nine.

“Leola-Frederick played really good on both ends,” Martinez said. “Congratulations to them.”
