RAPID CITY – Three area wrestlers are returning home with some shiny new hardware.

Brady Risetter of Redfield, Kellan Hurd of Miller/Highmore-Harrold and Aiden Shoenhard of Mobridge-Pollock were crowned state champions Friday after winning their respective weight brackets at the Class B state wrestling tournament, which wrapped up the individual competitions Friday in Rapid City.

Risetter, a senior, earned his first state title at 106 pounds after finishing third a season ago. Risetter hit a second-period pin of Carter Kendrick of Philip Area.

That win came just after teammate Grady Fey finished in the runner-up spot for the second straight year at 285 pounds.

Fey came into the tournament as the second overall seed and took top seed Traun Cook of Canton to overtime before Cook worked a takedown and a pin in sudden victory.

The area’s second title went to Hurd of Miller/Highmore-Harrold, who won a 6-3 decision over top-seeded Kasen Konstanz of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes in the 126-pound division. Hurd, a junior, was the runner-up at 120 pounds last season.

Schoenhard claimed the 220-pound title by injury default. Schoenhard was fifth a season ago, but wrestled his way through this year’s bracket with a pin and a pair of decisions to reach the championship bout.

Haeden Jorgenson of Webster and Christian Ehresmann of Groton also reached the 132 and 138-pound title matches, respectively. Jorgenson was pinned in the first period, while Ehresmann dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision in his match.

Webster’s Brooke Grajcyzk finished fifth at 132 pounds in the girls’ State Tournament.

Redfield, on the strength of Risetter’s title and Fey’s runner-up showing, added a fourth place finish from Mason Whitley at 152 and an eighth place from Chase McGillivary at 220 to finish seventh in the team standings.

Miller/Highmore-Harrold was eighth, while Mobridge-Pollock was 19th. Warner/Northwestern, on the strength of three place-winners, finished in 20th.
