Wolves open NSIC tourney with win over Minot

SIOUX FALLS – Top-seeded Northern State pulled away late to grab a 65-60 win over Minot State in the quarterfinals of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament Saturday evening at the Sanford Pentagon.

With the score tied at 53-53, the Wolves closed the game on a 12-7 surge led by back-to-back 3-pointers from Jordan Belka and Sam Masten.

Belka finished with 15 points to lead five players in double-figure scoring for Northern. He also grabbed 10 rebounds. Masten contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Wolves now advance to Monday’s semifinals at 4:30 p.m. They will play the winner of today’s Upper Iowa and Minnesota-Duluth contest.
