You may have noticed a new byline showing up on the SD SportScene site the past few days.
Jacob Wuertz has joined the SD SportScene team and will be covering a variety of events. His addition will allow us to cover a few more events in person, produce more feature stories and expand the scope of our coverage. In short, this is exciting news as we attempt to enhance our efforts to bring you the best sports coverage in our region.
Here is a little bio of Jacob. If you see him out and about, please welcome him to the area.
Hello. My name is Jacob Wuertz. I am the newest member of the SD SportScene staff. I grew up in Marion, S.D., graduating from Marion High School in 2014. After a brief time in the automotive industry, I decided to change careers and pursue a degree in Sport Marketing & Media at the University of South Dakota. After graduating in May 2021, I worked several part-time and full-time jobs in sports journalism and broadcasting, including KYNT radio in Yankton, and 605 Sports.
My passion for high school sports began when I would attend Marion and Hurley/Marion football games with my dad as a kid. Eventually, I played football and basketball in high school for the Marion Bears. My passion for high school sports did not stop after high school, as I continued to go to games and follow high school sports all across South Dakota, both as a fan and now as a journalist.
When I am not working or at a game, I enjoy spending time with friends, family, and church community. I also enjoy camping, hiking, traveling, cooking, and antique tractors and cars.
I am excited to continue my career in sports journalism at SD SportScene and bring you sports coverage that matters to you.
