Birnbaum breaks state record in 3,200-meter run

ARCADIA, Calif. - Rapid City Stevens standout Simeon Birnbaum set a South Dakota state record in winning the 3,200-meter run during the Arcadia Invitational Saturday night. The senior clocked a time of 8:34.10, not only a state record, but just five seconds off a national record in the event. The University of Oregon commit last year became the first prep runner in state history to run a sub-four minute mile.
