Class A Track and Field Leaders

Athletes from the Northeast Conference have made an impact on the initial Class A track and field leaders this season.

They include new state-record setter Gracelyn Leiseth of Hamlin and new school-record breaker Jayden Munroe of Aberdeen Roncalli.

Leiseth recently set a new state mark in the discus with a throw of 171-feet, 8-inches. She also tops the field in the shot put where she broke the state record last season.

Munroe set new school marks in both the long jump and triple jump this spring. His leap of 22-feet, 5-inches tops Class A this season. He is also second in the triple jump.

Hamlin’s Kami Wadsworth has the top javelin mark for Class A girls this year. She is also second in the shot put and discus.

Other NEC athletes among the boys’ leaders are Gavin Witt of Webster (third in the 200), Luke Fraser of Hamlin (fourth in the 400), Milbank Area’s Jayden Johnson (fourth in the pole vault), Kaden St. Pierre of Hamlin (fifth in the discus), Ricky Berndt of Deuel (eighth in the 1,600), Gabe Sather of Deuel (eighth in the 110-meter high hurdles), James Batchelor of Milbank Area (eighth in the 3,200), Max Lightfield of Milbank Area (tied for eighth in the 110 hurdles), and Hamlin is also second in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter relays, and third in the 400-meter, and Milbank Area is eighth in the 1,600 relay.

Other NEC athletes in the girls’ leaders are Milbank Area pole vaulters (Jacy Dexter tied for third, Maggie Kruger and Katie Kruger tied for seventh), Webster’s Erin Case (tied for seventh in the pole vault) and Milbank Area’s Beanica Berry (eighth in the 3,200), Milbank Area’s relay teams are fifth in the 1,600, sixth in the 800, and seventh in the 3,200 and tied for eighth in the medley.

Other area athletes in this week’s leaders include RJ Perry of Great Plains Lutheran (second in the discus, sixth in the shot put), Simon Fried of Mobridge-Pollock (fourth in the 300-hurdles), Carter Hinsz of Mobridge-Pollock (eighth in shot put), Ally Mullaney of Miller (fourth in the high jump), and Halle Bauer of Great Plains Lutheran (seventh in the 800 and 1,600). The Florence-Henry girls’ relay team is fifth in the sprint medley.
