Koisti among Coach of the Year recipients

SIOUX FALLS – The South Dakota High School Coaches Association has announced the Coach of the Year, Athletic Director of the Year, and Official of the Year Awards for the winter sports seasons. Among the winners is Tim Koisti of Hamlin who is the Girls’ Basketball coach of the Year.

Here are the winners in each category followed by the other nominees:

Gymnastics: Sherri Johnson of Estelline-Hendricks. Nominees included Kevin Knapp, Sioux Falls Roosevelt; Sherri Knippling, Chamberlain; Dana Nachtigal, Hot Springs; and Audra Rew, Mitchell.

Wrestling: Matt Thorson of Pierre. Nominees included Shawn Lewis, Pierre; Derek Outland, Brandon Valley; Jared Webster, Custer; and Chas Welch, Watertown.

Girls’ Basketball: Tim Koisti of Hamlin. Nominees included John Hess, Wall; Michael Koupal, Wagner; Molly Mason, Viborg-Hurley; and Jamie Parish, Sioux Falls Washington.

Boys’ Basketball: Jason Kleis of Dakota Valley. Nominees included Jeff Gruenhagen, De Smet; Chris Haynes, Yankton; Ryker Kreutzfeldt, Mitchell; and Todd Neuendorf, Hamlin.

Athletic Director: Joey Struwe of Sioux Falls Lincoln. Nominees included Cory Aadland, Mitchell; Jim Altenburg, Harrisburg; Paul Nepodal, Lead-Deadwood; and Jared Vasquez, Rapid City Stevens.

Official: Larry Stevens of Rapid City. Nominees included Kevin Cantine, Football; Shania Drey, Gymnastics; Scott Gangle, Wrestling; Nick Huntimer, Volleyball; Krista Inman, Cheer-Dance; Chad Landis, Soccer; Keith Matthiessen, Girls’ Basketball; and Jeff Schroder, Boys’ Basketball.

Last year’s winners were Gymnastics, Maridee Dossett, Madison; Wrestling, Derek Outland, Brandon Valley; Girls’ Basketball, Molly Mason, Viborg-Hurley; Boys’ Basketball, Mitch Begeman, Sioux Falls Roosevelt; Athletic Director, Randy Marson, Brandon Valley, and Bill Clemens, Dakota Valley; and Official, Marc Murren, Sioux Falls.

These coaches, athletic direct and official will be recognized at the annual awards banquet to be held on Sunday, June 18, at 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Dakota Dunes.
