Mobridge-Pollock, Miller claim Big Dakota titles

STEPHAN – The Miller boys and Mobridge-Pollock girls won team titles during the Big Dakota Conference track and field meet Tuesday.

Miller was third in the girls’ division and Mobridge-Pollock just two points behind Miller in the boys’ team points.

Both schools received dominant performances on the day.

Simon Fried of Mobridge-Pollock won the 800-meter run, the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, the long jump and ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay squad. Miller’s Joseph Baker and Colby Konda ran on winning 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams, while teammate Trevor Werdel won the discus and also ran on the first place 800-meter relay squad.

In the girls’ division, Ryli Thompson of Mobridge-Pollock won the 100, 200 and 400 dashes and also ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay team. Teammate Emily Hatzenbuhler won the shot put and discus. Miller’s Tyra Gates won the 100-meter hurdles and Ally Mullaney won the high jump, and both ran on the winning 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams. Paige Werdel won the long jump and was a member of the winning sprint medley relay squad.
