Roncalli splits tennis duals against Brookings, Mitchell

BROOKINGS - Aberdeen Roncalli picked up its first tennis victory on the young season Tuesday during a triangular in Brookings. The Cavaliers defeated Brookings 6-3, before falling to Mitchell 9-0. "I'm pleased with how the Brookings matches went," said Roncalli coach Paige Hermanson, "despite still having plenty of opportunities for improvement." Roncalli dominated the upper flights against the Bobcats, winning the top three flights of singles and the top two flights of doubles. Cason Hellwig, Palmer Johnson, Gannon May and Ezra Feickert each claimed singles victories. Johnson and May teamed up for a doubles victory, while Hellwig paired with Sawyer Henrich for a doubles win. The Cavaliers found the going much tougher against Mitchell. The closest match took place at second flight singles where Johnson dropped a 10-8 decision.
