Area athletes earn victories during Capital City meet

PIERRE – Heidi Olson of Mobridge-Pollock and Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County each won a pair of open events during the Capital City Qualifier track and field meet on Tuesday.

Both distance aces won the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs.

Ryli Thompson of Mobridge-Pollock won the 400-meter dash and also ran on winning 800 and 1,600 relay squads. Olson was also a member of the 1,600-meter relay team.

Mobridge-Pollock’s Shane Henderson won the 800 and ran on the first-place 1,600-meter relay.

Aberdeen Central’s JV squads also competed in the meet. Kiana Joerger won the pole, leading four Golden Eagles in the first five positions. The Central boys’ 800-meter relay team also finished first.

Carter Luikens of Potter County won the 400 and Herreid-Selby Area won the 3,200-meter relay on the boys’ side, while Faith Heil of Mobridge-Pollock won the 800, and Potter County won the 3,200 relay on the girls’ side.
