PIERRE – Aberdeen Roncalli placed third place or higher in six different flights on the way to a third place finish in team points at the Pierre Invitational tennis tournament on Friday.

Lennox won the team title with Sioux Falls Christian second.

“I’m just very pleased to be seeing so much improvement overall, in singles and in doubles,” said Roncalli coach Paige Hermanson. “Some kids are being placed in roles that they’re not necessarily used to due to unforeseen circumstances, and still giving it their all.”

The Cavaliers were led by senior Jacob Bellefeuille, who finished runner-up at sixth flight singles.

Roncalli’s Palmer Johnson (second flight), Gannon May (third flight), Jayden Reecy (fourth flight) and Ezra Feickert (fifth flight) all took third place in singles action.

Johnson and May combined for a third place finish at flight one doubles as well.

Bellefeuille and Reecy grabbed fifth place at flight three doubles with a tie-breaker victory. Feickert and Will Haskell ended up sixth at second flight doubles.

“Again, some really tough tiebreakers, both won and lost today,” Hermanson said. “Everyone played so hard this weekend, even in the heat that the Pierre Invite can be known to host.”

The Cavaliers head into the final week of the regular season next week before the State A tournament the following Monday and Tuesday. Roncalli faces Lennox and Milbank Area Monday in Milbank.

“I think we’re really excited to play Milbank this coming Monday,” Hermanson said, “and hone in on practice in the days leading up to state.”
