MITCHELL – The Aberdeen Central girls’ golf team earned yet another first-place team finish, along with placing three individuals in the top 10, at the Mitchell Invitational on Friday.

The Golden Eagles, who have won all but two tournaments this season, added another team title to their resume, finishing with a score of 323, nine strokes ahead of runner-up Rapid City Stevens (332).

Central golf coach Kim Zimmerman was proud of his team’s efforts.

“Very excited. Very happy for the girls and how they played today,” Zimmerman said. “Played some really good competition, some good teams out there, and they prevailed. I couldn’t be more proud of how they handled things.”

Zimmerman said a solid week of practice since winning a pair of tournaments last week contributed to the quality performances on Friday.

“I felt we had a good week of practice, but sometimes that doesn’t translate into results,” Zimmerman said. “I think their hard work and being able to get on the course and spend some time and practice, I think it’s paying off.”

Individually, Central was led by Olivia Braun and Kyley Wirebaugh, who tied for second with scores of 77. Emma Dohrer also placed in the top 10, finishing ninth with a score of 82.

“You need a couple girls to step up. Olivia’s been pretty consistent for us this year. Kyley’s posted some really good rounds recently, as well as Emma,” Zimmerman said. “We did have some really young girls step up and play well for us today, there’s no doubt about that.”

As the Golden Eagles look to keep the momentum going, Zimmerman says it’s all about taking things one step at a time.

“Sometimes if other teams play well, that’s out of your control. You just want to control what you can, and that’s your score, and so hopefully you just stay in the moment and take it one meet at a time, one hole at a time,” Zimmerman said. “I think it’s just important not to get too far ahead of yourselves. Stay in the moment.”

The Golden Eagles are scheduled to play in the Washington Invitational Monday in Sioux Falls.
