Class A Track and Field Leaders

A variety of Northeast Conference track and field athletes took advantage of solid performances in region meets this past week to move up the Class A leaderboard heading into the state meet.

On the boys’ side, Aberdeen Roncalli’s Jayden Munroe had his best mark in the triple jump, vaulting into first place to go along with his class-leading long jump. Mike Smith of Tiospa Zina joined the leaders for the first time this season and is currently seventh in the long jump. Deuel’s Ricky Berndt clocked his best time in the 800-meter run and is fifth in that event, while teammate Oliver Fieber had his best time in the 200-meter dash and is in eighth. Milbank Area’s Payton Brown is sixth in the 3,200-meter run after his top time at the Region 1A meet.

A total of four relay squads also clocked season-best times at regions including Hamlin in the 800 and and 1,600, fourth in both events, Webster which is sixth in the 800 and Groton which is eighth in the 1,600.

On the girls’ side, Clark-Willow Lake’s Sara Thonvold is making her first appearance in the leaders with the eighth-best time in the 100-meter hurdles, Halle Bauer of Great Plains Lutheran had her best time of the year and is eighth in the 1,600, and Maggie Kruger of Milbank Area is tied for sixth in the pole vault after her vault in Region 1A.

Hamlin’s Gracelyn Leiseth continues to lead the shot put and discus, while Kami Wadsworth and Cristhian Rodriguez of Hamlin ended up with the top throws in the javelin.

Other area boys’ leaders include: Zac VanMeeteren of Hamlin (second in the 200), Simon Fried of Mobridge-Pollock (second in the 300 hurdles), Lucas Johnson of Great Plains Lutheran (tied for third in the high jump), Fieber (fourth in the 100), Berndt (fourth in the 1,600), Drew Reetz of Webster (tied for fourth in the pole vault), RJ Perry of Great Plains Lutheran (sixth in the discus), Adam Moe of Florence-Henry (tied for sixth in the high jump), Brown (seventh in the 800), Kaden St. Pierre of Hamlin (seventh in the discus), Harley Zemlika of Milbank Area (eighth in the 110 hurdles), Alex Schumacher of Miller (eighth in the 1,600), and Jayden Johnson of Milbank Area (eighth in the pole vault). Other area relay teams are: Milbank Area (second in the 3,200, and third in the medley), Hamlin (fifth in the 400), and Deuel (seventh in the medley).

Other area girls’ leaders include: Wadsworth (second in the shot put and discus), Ally Mullaney of Miller (tied for third in the high jump), Jacy Dexter of Milbank Area (tied for third in the pole vault), Camryn Rohlfs of Redfield (sixth in the long jump, and eighth in the 400), Ryli Thompson of Mobridge-Pollock (seventh in the 400), and Sophie Kannas of Great Plains Lutheran (eighth in the 100). Area relay squads are: Mobridge-Pollock (eighth in the 1,600 and 3,200).
