A pair of South Dakota athletes took advantage of a North Dakota meet to record season-best performances this past week. One improved his grip on first place, while another moved into the Class B Track and Field Leaders for the first time this spring.
Morgan Sumption of Frederick went from being outside the top eight into second place in the 800-meter run after a clocking a time of 2:26.28 at a meet in Oakes, N.D.
Brenden Begeman of Herreid-Selby Area strengthen his lead in the shot put after his throw of 53-feet, 3-inches at the Oakes meet.
There are several area athletes who also lead events among the Class B field. Warner’s Hunter Cramer tops the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and is second in the 110-meter high hurdles, Leola’s Dustin Wurtz is first in the discus, and Wolsey-Wessington has the best time in the Sprint Medley Relay.
Other area boys’ leaders include: Daniel Stoll of Faulkton (second in the 200 and tied for fourth in the 100), Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County (second in the 1,600 and 3,200), Trevor Heinz of Ipswich (second in the long jump, and tied for seventh in the 100), Abe Kretchman of Aberdeen Christian (second in the triple jump and third in the long jump), Johnathan Bretsch of Frederick (third in the 800 and fourth in the 400), Carter Geditz of Ipswich (fourth in the 110 hurdles), Erik Salmen of Hitchcock-Tulare (fourth in the discus), Moshe Richmond of Wolsey-Wessington (fourth in the high jump), Darrel Yost of Ipswich (fourth in the pole vault), Carter Luikens of Potter County (fifth in the 400), Julius Pagels of Wolsey-Wessington (fifth in the 800), TJ Salmen of Hitchcock-Tulare (fifth in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 110 hurdles), Tyler Hettich of Ipswich (tied for fifth in the high jump), Carson Walters of Wolsey-Wessington (tied for fifth in the pole vault), Jackson Isakson of Aberdeen Christian (fifth in the triple jump), Lincoln Woodring of Northwestern (sixth in the 1,600), Tanner Dryer of Herreid-Selby Area (sixth in the triple jump), Turner Thorson of Ipswich (seventh in the 400), Maxwell Kulesa of Ipswich (seventh in the 800), Lucas Rowland of Ipswich (seventh in the shot put), Alex Pudwill of Warner (seventh in the javelin), and Roman DiMaria of Faulkton (eighth in the 400), Levi Scepaniak of Warner (tied for eighth in the discus). Other area boys’ relay teams are: Faulkton (second in the 800, third in the 400, and fifth in the 1,600), Warner (third in the 800, and sixth in the 400), Ipswich (third in the Medley and 3,200, seventh in the 800, and eighth in the 1,600), Frederick (third in the 1,600, and fifth in the 3,200), and Potter County (eighth in the Medley).

Other area girls’ leaders include: Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern (second in the 1,600 and 3,200, and eighth in the 800), Gracie Lange of Ipswich and Addison Melius of Faulkton (both tied for second in the high jump), Marley Guthmiller of Ipswich (tied for second in the pole vault), Shawnteah La Croix of Aberdeen Christian (third in the 200, and seventh in the 100), Ella Haven of Northwestern (fourth in the triple jump), Emma Schlachter of Potter County (fifth in the 800), Quincy Olivier of Ipswich (fifth in the pole vault), Ashley Ptacek of Ipswich (fifth in the triple jump), Kennadee Wiedebush of Warner (sixth in the 3,200), Tatum Luce of Wolsey-Wessington (tied for sixth in the high jump), Mya Boomsma of Wolsey-Wessington (seventh in the long jump), Rachel Beaner of Aberdeen Christian (eighth in the 3,200), Jalyssa Hutson (tied for sixth in the pole vault), and Sterling Mertens of Britton-Hecla (eighth in the long jump). Other area girls’ relay teams are: Potter County (third in the 1,600, Medley and 3,200), Northwestern (fourth in the 3,200, seventh in the Medley, and eighth in the 1,600), and Wolsey-Wessington (eighth in the 400).
