Deuel picks up softball sweep over Milbank Area

CLEAR LAKE – Deuel improved to 3-1 on the softball season following a sweep of Milbank Area on Monday. Deuel won the first contest 25-0 and then grabbed an 8-4 victory in the nightcap.

The host team exploded for 24 runs on 17 hits in the opening inning of the first game. Hope Bjerke and Roxanne Raml each had three hits in the win, while Bjerke, Katrina Haberg, and Harley Hennings each drove in three.

Haberg struck out nine of the 10 batters she faced in three innings on the mound.

Deuel used a pair of three-run frames to fuel the game two victory. The Cardinals scored three runs without a hit in the second inning, then received run-scoring singles from Makayla Harmon and Eden Schiernbeck in the third inning. Deuel plated two more runs in the fourth on RBI singles from Gracyn Gohring and Bjerke.

Ashlynn Lamp accounted for all four of Milbank’s runs, producing a two-run double in the third, and a two-run triple in the fifth.
