ESTELLINE – The Great Plains Lutheran girls and the Sioux Valley boys captured team championships during the Region 2A track and field meet on Wednesday.
The Panthers, who won three events, accumulated 146 points, 11 better than runner-up Sioux Valley. The Sioux Valley boys ended up 157 points, nearly 30 more than second place Elkton-Lake Benton.
Hamlin’s Luke Fraser had a big day, having a role in four events for the Chargers. He won the 400-meter dash and also ran on winning 400-meter, 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay squads. Gavin Prouty, Rylan Thue and Zac VanMeeteren were also members of those relay teams.
Deuel had a pair of double open event boys’ winners on the day. Oliver Fieber won the 100 and 200, and Ricky Berndt topped the fields in the 800 and 3,200.
Florence-Henry’s Mehki Keller won the long jump.
Great Plains won the girls’ 400 and 800 relays. Kyrie Roberts, Kim Goens and Sophie Kannas ran on both of those squads. Abigail Kjenstad won the high jump for the Panthers.
Hamlin’s Gracelyn Leiseth won the shot put and discus. Deuel’s Jayce Hourigan won the 3,200-meter run.

Clark-Willow Lake also grabbed a relay victory in the 3,200.
