ELKTON – Groton struck early and led from start to finish on the way to picking up a pair of high school baseball wins Sunday afternoon. The Tigers defeated Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern 8-2 and upended Elkton 13-6.
Groton, 6-2 on the season, scored four runs in the first inning of the victory over WIN, and plated seven runs in the opening frame of its win over Elkton.
Ryan Groeblinghoff struck out a total of 16 batters in six innings on the mound in Groton’s triumph over Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern.
Cole Simon drove in one first-inning run and two more came in on Colby Dunker’s single. Cade Larson had an RBI-double to highlight a two-run third, and Dillon Abeln drove in a run with a single in a two-run fifth.
Simon and Dunker each finished with two hits in the victory.
Abeln had a two-run single and Brevin Fliehs drove in a pair with a triple to highlight the seven-run first against Elkton. Braxton Imrie also drove in a run with a single.
Larson had an RBI single in the second and then produced a two-run double in the sixth.
Bradin Althoff finished with three hits and scored four runs to lead Groton’s 13-hit attack. He also struck out eight batters in three innings of work.
Fliehs, Cade Larson and Tate Larson each had two hits. Cade Larson knocked in four, while Fliehs plated three.
