SIOUX FALLS – Hamlin’s Gracelyn Leiseth won the shot put competition during the opening day of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on Friday. The senior recorded a mark of 52-feet and one-half inch.
Fellow Hamlin senior Kami Wadsworth was third in the shot put and also third in the javelin.
Aberdeen Central had a couple of top-five finishes on the day. Ciara Frank tied for fourth in the high jump, while Grace Kuch was fifth in the javelin.
On the boys’ side, Ipswich’s Trevor Heinz was fifth in the long jump.
There were five area boys’ relay squads that clocked top-five finishes on Friday. Faulkton was second in the Class B 800-meter relay with Warner third. Ipswich was third in the Class B 3,200-meter relay with Frederick fifth. In the Class A 3,200 relay, Milbank Area was third.
In the girls’ Class B 3,200-meter relay, Potter County finished third and Northwestern was fourth.
Rapid City Stevens senior Simeon Birnbaum won the boys’ special 800-meter run. He clocked a time of 1:50.37.
