SISSETON – Lisbon swept team titles, Groton relay squads picked up five victories, and Aberdeen Roncalli’s Maddox May set a new school record in the javelin during the Sisseton Twilight track and field meet on Friday.

Groton, which collected four wins in boys’ relay races, was runner-up in boys’ team points, while Oakes was second in girls’ points.

May finished sixth in the javelin with a school record and personal best throw and of 127-feet, 5-inches.

“He’s a very versatile athlete,” said Roncalli coach Brady Lesnar. “He makes it fun. He works very hard.”

Roncalli’s top individual finisher on the day was Paul Gutenkauf, who placed third in the 800-meter run. Teammate Garrett Griffin was fifth.

“I thought our 800 guys ran really well today,” Lesnar said. “Paul Gutenkauf had a really good race and so did Garrett Griffin.”

Lesnar also noted that Emma Vogel and Matayah Henrich also won their heats in the 800.

Isaac Price had a personal record by nine feet in the pole vault.

Groton won the 400-meter, 800-meter, 1,600-meter and Sprint Medley relays.

Ryder Johnson, Keegen Tracy and Andrew Marzahn ran on the 400, 800 and 1,600 squads, while Korbin Kucker was part of the 400 and Medley teams.

Roncallli was second in the 1,600-meter relay.

“We had some good things today for sure. I thought we ended it very well,” Lesnar said. “We ran a 3:40.7  in the 4×4 for the boys. That was a season best. We didn’t even have Jayden (Munroe) in it.”

Munroe did not compete in the meet as he rehabs a minor injury.

Other boys’ event winners included Daniel Person of Britton-Hecla in the 800, Milbank Area’s Isaac Graham in the 3,200, and Sam Rick in the pole vault, Webster’s Matthew Mount in the shot put, and Lucas Johnson of Great Plains Lutheran in the high jump.

Girls’ event winners included Aspen Johnson of Groton in the triple jump, Madison Zirbel of Dakota Valley in the 3,200, Webster’s Elliott Steiner in the high jump and Erin Case in the pole vault, and Groton’s 3,200-meter relay squad.

Roncalli will compete at a meet in Webster on Monday before the Northeast Conference meet Thursday in Groton.

“Hopefully, we can get the kids to peak to at the right time and maybe have a few surprises,” Lesnar said as the regular season winds to a close.
