Area golfers earn top five finishes at State B tournaments

WATERTOWN – A trio of area athletes finished in the top five of the Class B State Girls’ Golf Tournament at Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown on Tuesday.

Clark-Willow Lake’s Brynn Roehrich captured a second-place finish with a score of 156, five strokes behind Bison-Hettinger-Scranton’s Allison Kahler, who won the title with a score of 151.

The Miller duo of Kaihlyn Anderberg and Jayce Pugh tied for third, each carding scores of 158. Chester’s Ayla McDonald (159) rounded out the top five.

Other area golfers included Sully Buttes Olivia Olson, who finished 16th with a score of 175, Potter County’s Olivia Mikkelsen and Neva Mikkelsen, who tied for 17th with scores of 176, and Hamlin’s Eva Koisti, who finished tied for 19th with a score of 177.

In the team standings, Chester took home the team title with a score of 498, five strokes ahead of Bison-Hettinger-Scranton (503). Miller ended with a third-place finish with a score of 514, while Deubrook Area (538) and Burke (542) rounded out the top five. Other area teams included Clark-Willow Lake finishing in eighth place with a score of 580, Faulkton finishing in 10th with a score of 598, Selby Area tying for 11th with a score of 610, and Webster finishing 15th with a score of 641.

On the boys’ side, Gregory defended its team championship at the Prairie Winds Golf Course on Tuesday.

The Gorillas finished 29 strokes ahead of runner-up Hanson, finishing with a team score of 474. The Beavers finished with a score of 503. Sully Buttes earned a third-place finish with a score of 507, while Ethan (508) and Ipswich (509) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Other area team results included Webster tying for 10th with a score of 523, Edmunds Central finishing 13th with a score of 531, Hamlin finishing 15th with a score of 539, and Deuel finishing 17th with a score of 564.

Individually, Selby Area’s Tray Hettick finished in a four-way tie for fifth place. Hettick, along with Gregory’s Trey Murray, Hanson’s Ben Wilber, and Castlewood’s Lane Tvedt, finished with a score of 161. Gregory’s Eli Fogel captured the title with a score of 151, one stroke ahead of McIntosh’s Wyatt Larson (152). Sully Buttes’ Gavin Colson (153) and Wessington Springs’ Blake Larson (160) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Other area golfers included Ipswich’s Jace Konsor, who finished in a four-way tie for 9th with a score of 162, Sully Buttes’ Wesley Wittler and Webster Area’s Blaize Amdahl, who finished in a three-way tie for 15th with scores of 165, Florence-Henry’s Logan Vavruska finishing in a four-way tie for 18th with a score of 166, and Ipswich’s Chet Peterson finishing tied for 22nd with a score of 167.
