Beyers in second after opening day of State B

WATERTOWN – Harrison Beyers of Edmunds Central is in second place following the opening round of the Class B State Boys’ Golf Tournament at Prairie Winds Golf Course on Monday.

Beyers, a freshman, fired a 77 and is three strokes behind the leader Wyatt Larson of McIntosh. Tray Hettick of Selby Area, Blaize Mollman of Webster, and Gavin Colson of Sully Buttes are all in a tie for fifth place after shooting rounds of 79.

Gregory’s Eli Fogel and Ethan’s Rylan Gerlach finished tied for third with scores of 78. Colman-Egan’s Taylor Kriech is also part of that tie for fifth.

Other top boy’s golfers from the area include Ipswich’s Chet Peterson tied for 13th with a score of 81, Sully Buttes’ Wesley Wittler tied for 20th with a score of 83, and Edmunds Central’s Cole Bukaske and Ipswich’s Jace Konsor tied for 23rd with scores of 85.

In team standings, defending champion Gregory is tied with Ethan for first place with scores of 243. Edmunds Central and Colman-Egan are tied for third with scores of 252, while Wessington Springs rounds out the top five with a score of 253.

On the girls’ side, a trio of area golfers are among the top 10 following their opening day of competition at Cattail Crossing.

Clark-Willow Lake’s Brynn Roehrich is tied for fourth with a 79, while Miller teammates Jayce Pugh and Kaihlyn Anderberg are tied for sixth with 89s.

Chester Area (245) holds a seven-stroke lead over Bison-Hettinger-Scranton (252) in team standings. Miller finished the day in third place with a score of 260, while Howard (272) and Deubrook Area (273) rounded out the top five.

Individually, Bison-Hettinger-Scranton’s Allison Kahler has a two-stroke lead after carding a 76. Teammate Greta Anderson is tied with Chester’s Jadyn McDonald for second place with scores of 78. Chester’s Ayla McDonald is also tied for fourth.

Other top girls’ golfers from the area are Faulkton’s Gabby Kast who is tied for 12th with a score of 80, and Potter County’s Olivia Mikkelsen who is tied for is 15th with an 87.
