ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Rapid City Stevens senior Simeon Birnbaum won a 1,600-meter run against some the nation’s elite competition Thursday night at the HOKA Festival of Miles with a career-best time of 3:57.53. That mark is the fourth fastest ever for a high school runner in America. Three other runners in the race also went under four minutes.

Last season Birnbaum ran his sub-four minute mile, clocking a 3:59.51, becoming just the 17th high school runner in history to go under the four-minute mark. He will be competing at Oregon next season.

Last week Birnbaum won the 800, 1,600, and 3,200-meter runs at the Class AA State Track and Field Meet in Sioux Falls.
