Scoring surge lifts Groton over Milbank

GROTON - Groton scored seven unanswered runs to turn back Milbank 16-6 in American Legion baseball action on Saturday. The host squad pulled away from a 5-4 lead with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Braxton Imrie had a sacrifice fly and Cade Larson delivered a two-run double in the frame. Groton also scored two runs on errors, another on a passed ball and one more on a bases-loaded hit batter. While Milbank scored twice in the top of the seventh on a double by Merik Junker, Groton ended the contest on the 10-run rule with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, as Cole Simon and Ryan Groeblinghoff each had two-run doubles. Groton led early before Milbank responded with three straight runs, two coming on passed balls and another on a single from Justus Osborn. Groton tied the score at 3-3 on an RBI double from Bradin Althoff and a run-scoring single from Cade Larson, then used a passed ball and another RBI-hit from Althoff to go up by two.
