REDFIELD – Dell Rapids and Salem-Montrose-Canova each won opening-round games in the State B Legion Baseball Tournament on Friday in much different fashion. Dell Rapids edged Platte 2-1, and Salem-Montrose-Canova took down Tabor 15-2.
Dell Rapids overcame a one-run deficit with a run in the fourth inning on Aiden Boechler’s RBI single, and then scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the sixth. Platte had two runners on in the bottom of the sixth, but had a runner picked off first base to end the threat.
Both starting pitchers, Dylan Kindt of Dell Rapids and Caden Oberbroekling of Platte each had 10 strikeouts before being relieved.
Dakota Munger had three of Platte’s six hits.
Salem-Montrose-Canova racked up 13 hits, and took advantage of nine walks, three hit batters and a pair of errors in the win over Tabor.
Jack Neises had a two-run double in the fourth, Jackson Grady and Weston Remmers had back-to-back RBI singles in a four-run sixth, and Griffin Clubb belted a three-run home run in a four-run seventh.
Grady and Remmers each had three hits for S-M-C, which avenged a pair of regular-season losses to Tabor with the victory.
Dell Rapids and Salem-Montrose-Canova meet this evening at 5 p.m., while Platte and Tabor square off in an elimination game at 10 this morning.
