REDFIELD – Elk Point-Jefferson scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed on the way to eliminating Salem-Montrose-Canova 5-3 at the State B Legion Baseball Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Kayden Moore had a two-run single in the first frame to help give EPJ a lead and the Huskies held off S-M-C the rest of the way.
Salem-Montrose-Canova closed the deficit to 3-2 with single runs in the second and fourth innings. Weston Remmers had an RBI double in the second and a sacrifice fly in the fourth, however, S-M-C had a runner thrown out at the plate in the second and another thrown out at third base in the fourth.
Elk Point-Jefferson extended its lead back to three with a pair of runs in the fifth on an RBI double by Ben Swatek, and a sac fly from Jordan Anderson.

Salem-Montrose-Canova threatened in the final innings. S-M-C put runners on second and third with one out in the sixth, but failed to score. It tallied a run in the seventh on a Jackson Remmers sac fly, and had a runner on third base, but could not get any closer.
Jacob Gale had three hits to lead EPJ, which will face Dell Rapids on Monday.
Neises had two doubles to power Salem-Montrose-Canova.
