A pair of feature races were determined in the final laps at Brown County Speedway Friday night.
Tyler Anglin of Aberdeen and Kasey Ussatis of Nome, N.D., both secured victories right before the checkered flag fell at the end of their features.
The Modified feature was a classic two-lane battle between Anglin and Jesse Young of Warner.
Young led much of the race running on the high side, while Anglin kept inching closer running on the low side. Anglin eventually surged ahead with five laps remaining, only to have Young recapture the lead with three laps to go. It wasn’t until the final turn on the final lap that Anglin surged ahead to take the checkered flag.
“That was a very good race,” Anglin said. “The track was just perfect. You could run both lines and it was a heckuva race.”
Anglin knew the high side was hooking up and wasn’t quite sure if the bottom of the track would come around in time.
“The top has been pretty good all night and I was worried if the bottom was going to come in,” Anglin said. “It was a little greasy the first couple of rounds, but it really came around to make for a good race track.”
The victory was the second of Anglin’s career.
“I never figured one would happen, so two, that’s just even better, yet,” Anglin said. “Hopefully, we can keep it going.”
Ussatis was battling Jodie Michaelsohn of Aberdeen in the Street Stock main and was running out of time before a caution flag was needed with three laps remaining. When the action resumed, Michaelsohn got too high going into turn two and Ussatis took advantage, grabbing the late lead and finishing with the victory.

“Honestly, I din’t think I had a chance in it, but all of a sudden the 54 wasn’t there,” Ussatis said of Michaelsohn’s car. “That was a fun race with Jodie. We raced side-by-side I think for almost every lap there. It was a blast.”
Ussatis said the track was ideal for racing with multiple lanes to run.
“The track was awesome tonight,” he said, “that we could have two lanes like that and be competitive, so that was fun.”
Trevor Nelson kept his phenomenal season going in the Super Stock division. The Warner driver ran on the low side to start the race and eventully moved to the high side to take a lead about five laps into the race. Once he had the advantage, Nelson tried to figure out the fastest way around the oval and found the top side to his liking.
“It’s a big momentum thing. You get the top wound up here, you’re going to be pretty good,” Nelson said. “Great track tonight. Hats off to Brown County and Kent (Arment) and all these guys that are putting hard work in it.”

Nelson said the shortest route is around the bottom, but his car hooked up better taking the longer way around on the top.
“It was a fine line,” Nelson said. “Our car was great on the top, actually wasn’t that good on the bottom, so that’s another reason we stayed up there.”
It was Nelson’s 15th feature victory of the season.
“It’s been a great season so far,” he said. “Hopefully, we can keep it rolling.”
Other feature winners included Chad Becker of Aberdeen in Late Model, and Jaren Wibstad of Jamestown, N.D. in Midwest Modified.
Racing continues Friday at 7 p.m.
