Groton rallies for walk-off win over Claremont

GROTON – Groton scored three two-out runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to grab a 9-8 walk-off victory over Claremont in American Legion baseball Monday night.

Trailing 8-6 with two outs in the seventh, Groton received a two-run double from Bradin Althoff, before Tate Larson ended the game with a walk-off single driving in Althoff.

Claremont scored five runs in the top of the second inning to take a 6-1 lead. Colby Dauwen highlighted the frame with a two-run single.

Claremont still owned a five-run advantage, leading 7-2 in the sixth before Groton cut into the deficit when Colby Dunker drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double.

The visitors extended their lead to 8-5 in the top of the seventh, before Groton scored one run on an error to set up the dramatic two-out finish.

Althoff finished with three hits, three RBI, and scored two runs. Dunker had a pair of hits and knocked in three. Cade Larson and Tate Larson each had two hits.

Brevin Fliehs struck out six batters in relief, before Logan Ringgenberg pitched the last two frames, striking out three.

Will Cutler had two hits for Claremont, and Dauwen knocked in three.
