REDFIELD – Redfield kept its offensive pressure on, scoring at least two runs in four innings in a 10-0 run-rule victory over Clark-Willow Lake Saturday night in the second round of the State B American Legion baseball tournament.

The host squad scored two runs in each of the first three innings, then capped the day with a four-run fifth inning to remain unbeaten in the double-elimination tournament.

And Redfield has done all of that while collecting just one extra-base hit through its first two games. All 10 of Saturday’s hits were singles.

“We’ve been pretty steady,” said Redfield coach Tommy Gregg. “We’ve been able to score runs. After the first inning the first night, we’ve been … able to hold some leads.”

Redfield put the pressure on the visiting Senators early, walking the bases loaded to begin the bottom of the first inning, then taking advantage of a defensive miscue to score twice.

From there, it was a steady stream of singles and runs. Owen Osborn and Keaton Rohlfs had RBI singles in the second, as did Elijah Morrissette and Camden Osborn in the third.

Peyton Osborn drove in two runs in the fifth, while an error and another RBI single from Rohlfs ended the game two plays later.

Gregg said he wasn’t worried about any perceived lack of pop in his team’s lineup, noting that a string of singles is just as effective at scoring runs as a couple of extra-base hits.

“We just talk about passing the baton to the next guy,” Gregg said. “We feel we’re good enough to string some hits together.”

Camden Osborn, Owen Osborn, and Rohlfs had two hits apiece for Redfield. Rohlfs drove in four of the team’s 10 runs.

Owen Osborn went the distance on the mound, allowing just two hits and striking out five.

Emmerson Larson and Jack Bratland had Clark-Willow Lake’s two hits, including a double from Bratland.

Redifled faces Dell Rapids at 6 this evening in a matchup of the remaining undefeated teams. Clark-Willow Lake takes on Tabor at about 3:30 this afternoon in an elimination contest.

“They’re very good,” Gregg said. “We played them late in the season. We were a little dinged up and not totally healthy. And we didn’t play well. So that puts a chip on the guys’ shoulder to where we feel like maybe we have something to prove.”
