Redfield still unbeaten; Clark-Willow Lake, W-I-N remain in Region 6B

NORTHVILLE – After winning a game in walk-off fashion on Tuesday, Redfield remained unbeaten with a convincing 24-0 win over Clark-Willow Lake on Wednesday during the Region 6B American Legion Baseball Tournament. Elsewhere, Faulkton eliminated Groton 12-11, and Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern eliminated Faulkton 12-5.

Redfield started its victory with five runs in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs after two outs. Erik Salmen had a two-run double, Elliott Komraus drove in a run on a single, and two other runs came in on errors.

Redfield then tacked on eight runs in the second inning to take total control. Nolan Gall and Owen Osborn both drove in three runs on bases-loaded hits. Komraus and Eli Morrissette each drove in one run on hits.

Kellan Hurd plated two runs on a single in the fourth, before Redfield exploded for nine more runs in the fifth. Gall and Kevin Weller each knocked in two runs on hits, Seth Siebrecht and Owen Osborn also had RBI hits, and Salmen capped the scoring with a three-run home run.

Gall finished with three hits, drove in five and scored four times. Salmen also had five RBI, and Osborn contributed four runs batted in. Five different players each had two hits for Redfield, which moved into the championship game.

Meanwhile, Keaton Rohlfs scattered two hits, did not allow a walk and struck out six batters to get the pitching victory.

Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern built a 7-0 lead, watched Faulkton slice it to 8-5, then plated four runs in the seventh for the final margin of difference.

Kade Stahl gave W-I-N an early two-run lead with a single in the first inning. The squad then added five more runs in the fifth as Quintin Fischbach delivered a two-run double, Gage Ratgian drew a bases-loaded walk, and Noah Fischbach added a run-scoring single.

Faulkton responded with three runs in the bottom half of the fifth on Layne Cotton’s bases-loaded triple.

After Ratigan drove in another run for W-I-N in the sixth, Faulkton closed the gap farther on August Kopecky’s single and an error. However, W-I-N concluded with a four spot in the seventh, three runs coming in on RBI singles from Ashton Remily, Sam Vetter and Noah Fischbach.

Stahl, Xavier Kadlec and Quintin Fishbach each had three hits for W-I-N. Quintin Fischbach struck out eight batters in getting the pitching win.

Faulkton’s Alex Sorensen drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning in the victory over Groton, capping an eight-run rally.

Groton had jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the top of the third with five runs in each of the second and third frames. Dillon Abeln and Brevin Fliehs each had RBI singles before Tate Larson plated a pair to highlight the second inning. Groton scored four times after two outs in the third as Fliehs had another run-producing hit, Bradin Altoff had a two-run triple, and Larson added an RBI double.

Faulkton responded with four runs in both the third and fourth innings to tie the contest. Cotton drove in a pair with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sorensen in the third. Kopecky had a two-run single to highlight the fourth.

The two squads traded single runs in the fifth setting up Sorensen’s game-winning hit in the sixth.

Carson Stephenson had three hits for Faulkton. Sorensen contributed two hits and four RBI. Cotton and Kopecky each finished with two hits and drove in a pair.

Larson had two hits and knocked in three for Groton. Fliehs added two hits and two RBI.

Clark-Willow Lake meets Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern in an elimination game today. The winner will take on Redfield.
