Redfield wins 6B, Clark-Willow Lake also headed to state tourney

NORTHVILLE – Redfield won the Region 6B championship, while Clark-Willow Lake also earned a berth to the State B tournament during American Legion baseball action on Thursday.

Redfield, which is hosting the state tourney and already had an automatic berth, defeated Clark-Willow Lake by a double-digit total for the second straight night, this time claiming a 14-0 victory in the title contest.

Redfield erupted for 11 first-inning runs to take control early. The squad had five hits and took advantage of six walks in the frame.

After the first run came in on an error, Seth Siebrecht drew a bases-loaded walk, and Elliott Komraus drove in another on a ground out. Kevin Weller and Owen Osborn each had two-run singles, followed by Peyton Osborn’s RBI double. Nolan Gall drove in two more with a single, before Erik Salmen capped the scoring with a run-producing double.

Redfield then tacked on three more runs in the second. Peyton Osborn drove in a run on a single, before the last two runs came in on errors.

Peyton Osborn and Weller each had two hits. Gall knocked in three runs, while Owen Osborn, Peyton Osborn and Weller each had two RBI.

Clark-Willow Lake punched its ticket to the state tournament with a win over Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern earlier in the day. All three runs in the contest came in via errors.

W-I-N scored a single run in the second inning to take an early lead, which held up until the bottom of the fifth when Clark-Willow Lake scratched across a pair of runs. Conner Mudgett and Trey Huber each scored in the frame.

W-I-N threatened to score in the fifth, when Devon Fischbach doubled for the game’s only extra-base hit, but he was stranded at second base.

Huber struck out five batters in nearly going the distance. Jack Bratland came on to retire the final batter after W-I-N got a runner on base in the top of the seventh.

Fischbach recorded six strikeouts in a complete-game effort for Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern, which received two hits from Quintin Fischbach.

The state tourney starts on Friday, July 28 and runs through Tuesday, Aug. 1.
