The Aberdeen Swim Club wrapped a solid State A Swim Meet over the weekend at the Aberdeen Aquatic Center.
The Stingrays finished third in team points with a total of 2,416. Sioux Falls won the meet with 7,407 points, while Watertown was second with 4,268.
Aberdeen also won the Spirit Award voted on by all teams at the meet.
Here are some of the many highlights on the weekend, as noted by Stingrays coach Neil Romney:
· Lilly Grebner earned new Futures Championships qualifying times in both the 100 (1.04.50) and 200 (2.21.54) butterfly races with evenly paced efforts characterized by exceptional back halves
· Lula Karst won the girls 11-12 200m freestyle, blasting out into a body length lead in the first 50m and extending it throughout the race, finishing over 5 seconds in front of her nearest competitor in 2.19.39, a 7-second improvement and a USA Swimming AAA cut .
· Joe Grebner won the boys 15-16 100 breaststroke with a 1:08.39, a two-second PR and USA Swimming AAA cut and Futures Championships qualifying time.
· Easton Ketterling opened Friday’s session by winning both of his boys 11-12 events with take-it-out-fast-and-hold-on efforts in the 200 free (improving 5 seconds to 2.24.03) and 200 im (improving 4 seconds to 2.44.05) to seal the win and register new USA Swimming AA cuts in both races.
· Logan Smith scored the win in the boys 8-and-under 50 breaststroke, dropping 5 seconds to 52.92 and earning his first USA Swimming BB cut for 10-year-olds.
· Ryan Schmidt dropped 34 seconds in the boys 13-14 800m freestyle (10.09.66) to take 2nd and register a new USA Swimming A time in only his second try at this event.
