Cavaliers split tennis duals at Brookings Jamboree

BROOKINGS – Aberdeen Roncalli split a pair of girls’ tennis matches Saturday, falling 7-2 to Yankton before rallying for a 6-3 win over Brookings during the Brookings Jamboree. Cavalier coach Jason Haskell said it was an admittedly slow start for his squad during the Yankton match, but noted Anna Mitzel was a bright spot in that dual. Mitzell claimed a 10-8 win over Yankton’s Evelyne Lima-Zapon, and followed that up with a tiebreaker win in the Brookings match. “(The Yankton match) was a match where she had to continually up her game to match the level of her opponent and she did,” Haskell said. “Very proud of her effort today.” Roncalli’s top singles player Katherine Kretchman returned home with just one win on the day, but still earned a note of praise from her coach. “Katherine’s effort and play were not indicative of the score against Yankton,” Haskell said. “The Krajewski twins (Nora and Sabrina) always bring their best game and Katherine mad
