SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central played well in extended stretches, but it was not enough to overcome Sioux Falls Jefferson Tuesday evening. The Golden Eagles fell 5-1 in the non-conference boys’ soccer contest.

“The score sounds terrible,” said Central coach Lance Mohr. “We played really well for long periods of the game and we got punished for a couple of mistakes in the first half.”

Jefferson scored one goal in the opening half on a penalty kick and another on a free kick.

Central cut into the Jefferson lead in the second half when Gus Bjerknes scored the lone goal for the Golden Eagles, but it wasn’t enough and the Cavaliers added more goals to secure the victory.

“We pushed to close the gap and gave up a couple of bad goals in the second half,” Mohr said.

While the setback was the second straight to start the season for Central, Mohr saw positives on the evening.

“It’s definitely something we can build on, because we are trying to play more minutes each game of good soccer,” Mohr said. “We have a young team adapting and we’ll continue to push until we get to where we need to be.”
